April is always my favourite month of the year. It’s always the first month where the weather gets warmer, life seems to flourish and flowers bloom out of nowhere.
Everywhere you look there is new life, whether it’s a baby animal or a field covered in beautiful daffodils. Not to mention the arrival of birdsong every morning when you wake up!
Everyone seems happier and you can’t help but get caught up in it.
There are two key things that I feel grateful for this month:
1. My piano
This month I’ve started playing the piano daily. At the beginning of the month I learned a new song and it seems to have refreshed my interested in the instrument.
I’m challenging myself to learn a new song every month and publish it to my YouTube channel – which is quite brave for me!
I’m grateful that I have a passion I can really get lost in. When I’m learning a new song, I can lose track of time very easily. If I’m feeling down, I can jump on the piano and play a song to take my mind off things.
I’m grateful that I have an opportunity to learn something new.
I’ve been reading two books this month and I’m really enjoying them.
The first is a book about intuitive eating. I’m only a few chapters in so I can’t really give much of an opinion at the moment, although what I have read I am finding very useful.
To me, recovery from an eating disorder isn’t about eating what I want whenever I want. It’s about really listening to my body and being completely in tune with what it wants and needs. This book is showing me how to do that.
The second book is ‘Sensing the Rhythm’ by Mandy Harvey and I’m enjoying it immensely.
She’s an extremely talented musician and I think that it was reading this book that inspired me to begin playing the piano again.
I highly recommend reading this as well as listening to her songs – I’ve had them on repeat on my iPod all week!
I’m grateful for books because there’s always something to learn from them. Whenever I’ve been reading, I come away with a slightly different perspective and I nearly always feel happier.
That’s it for this blog post – what are you grateful for this month?
