I haven’t written anything for a little while so I thought I’d post a quick update.
I think January is always a quiet month, especially after all the commotion of Christmas and New Year. And even though I’m managing to stick to most of my resolutions, it’s easy to feel a little bit flat. So I though I would cheer myself up with a little bit of baking.
Yesterday I met with my grandparents and we exchanged Christmas presents because we didn’t get chance to see each other over the holidays, and she got me loads of baking and cooking supplies! So it’s the perfect excuse to get in the kitchen and try them out.
I’ve found that baking helps to cheer me up. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a distraction from anything that’s bothering me or just the feeling of achievement when I’ve made something new. But what matters is that it works – and it’s tasty.
Today I decided to go with an oldie but goody – gingerbread men!
I definitely have a long way to go before anyone is awarding me star baker – but I tried and they tasted nice and that’s what counts, right? I even dipped a few of them in chocolate so they could wear trousers, because even gingerbread men need to keep their dignity!
Of course, there were a few casualties along the way, especially during the dipping process:
It’s a small thing but it has perked me up a little bit.
